Strategic workforce planning is not only an HR issue. It’s a management issue to ensure mission-critical talent can enable strategic goals. Strategic workforce planning gets the right people with the right skills in place at the right time.
APQC, with support from IBM, conducted a study on best and next practices in strategic workforce planning. The results illustrate how to:
- staff and structure a workforce planning program,
- organize the planning and implementation process, and
- use analytics to drive effective human capital interventions.
These findings are based on a survey of more than 100 organizations with relatively mature strategic workforce planning processes, an analysis of the practices of the top 25 survey participants based on program outcomes, and interviews with five organizations exemplifying strategic workforce planning best practices.
These five best-practice organizations include: Kaiser Permanente Northern California Region, Phillips 66, The Mitre Corporation, USDA Farm Service Agency, and US Geological Survey.
APQC’s latest report, Strategic Workforce Planning: Best and Next Practices, details key research findings and supporting examples to help you learn how to establish an effective strategic workforce planning program at your organization!
